  3.                     Long Paths and DESQview

  5. Dear User,
  6.  
  7. From and examination of your problem report, it is apparent that 
  8. the problem may be related to the setting of a very long path in 
  9. your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  10.  
  11. All versions of DESQview prior to 2.2 use standard DOS functions 
  12. to append the DESQview subdirectory to the DOS path.  DESQview in 
  13. effect "types" the path in and appends the DESQview directory.  
  14. If your path approaches the DOS limit of 128 characters, DESQview 
  15. cannot properly append it's own subdirectory and this will cause 
  16. proper subdirectory access to fail in DESQview.
  17.  
  18. An additional symptom of this is that often the DESQview DOS 
  19. Services program will not be able to properly establish its menu.
  20.  
  21. If you are running a long path, try to shorten it.  Typically we 
  22. find many users have quite a few subdirectories in there path 
  23. that serve no particular purpose.  If you have included the 
  24. DESQview subdirectory in your AUTOEXEC.BAT Path, you should 
  25. remove it since DESQview likes to establish this itself.

  27. DESQview version 2.2 uses another method of appending the 
  28. DESQview subdirectory to the path, so if you find it difficult to 
  29. modify your path to make it shorter, upgrading could be a 
  30. solution.
